Foxway co-founds Eurefas to promote refurbishment across Europe

Foxway has joined forces with other leading players in the refurbishment industry to advocate and promote the interests of the industry on the European level. Eurefas will work to ensure more awareness of the circular economy of refurbishing.

The refurbishment industry now has a united European business association and Foxway is a founding member along with Fenix.co, Recommerce Group, ReWare mobile and Tech2com

Headquartered in Brussels, The European Refurbishment Association (Eurefas) aims to accelerate the development of refurbished devices by raising consumer awareness, enhancing collaboration between players, sharing market information, and addressing both the media and public administrations with a common voice.

“Our ambition is to represent refurbishment companies of all shapes and sizes, from every corner of Europe, to build a circular economy and help the development of the industry. Eurefas wants to inform about the positive impacts of refurbishing both for the planet and for consumers,” said Eurefas President Augustin Becquet.

CEO of Foxway Recommerce, Agnes Makk, points out that the time is right for the industry to speak with one voice regarding the benefits of refurbished electronic devices from both an economic and environmental perspective.

“I am delighted that Foxway is part of this new effort to ensure that the ecosystem of refurbished electronics is made even better across Europe for example through the promotion of quality standards. We look forward to the collaboration with our peers and to enter into dialogue with all the relevant stakeholders through Eurefas,” said Agnes Makk.

Consumer awareness and interest in buying second-hand devices is rising quickly. The worldwide market for second-hand smartphone shipments is expected to surge from USD 27 billion in 2019 to USD 67 billion in 2023 according to IDC with 332.9 millions units shipped worldwide. In France and Germany, refurbished devices made up more than 10% of the smartphone market in 2019, with an annual growth rate of over 10%.

“We are seeing a shift in perception as more consumers discover more sustainable practices around device ownership and how they can contribute by ensuring that their old devices re-enter the lifecycle. Through the efforts of Eurefas, this sentiment is sure to grow further and I am excited to be part of this journey, said Mikkel Frid, Sourcing Director of Foxway Recommerce.
